Global warming is an increasing problem for those of us who are concerned about our planet’s future. Therefore, many people are starting to turn to green living practices to help save our planet and keep it healthy for future generations. When you get involved in green living, it will affect every aspect of your life, from mowing your lawn to driving to work.

It’s a daunting prospect to switch to green living all at one time, and this might actually scare some people away from taking on these most important earth friendly changes. However, you can start slowly, so that you ease into green living and will still help positively impact the earth’s environment.

Pollution is a major problem in many areas. Much of it comes from factories, but that’s not the only thing contributing to global warming. Automobiles, too, contribute significant amounts of pollution to the air.

If you have lots of traffic driving around your city streets, the amount of pollutants emitted by your car is multiplied by the number of cars driving around you. What does this mean in terms of our earth? These types of pollutants help destroy the ozone layer, among other things. To help save the environment, start by walking when you can instead of taking the car, carpooling, or even purchasing a hybrid vehicle if you’re in the market for a new car.

These small changes can significantly positively impact the environment and help make it healthy for future generations. There are many other ways to incorporate green living into your life as well, once you take a look around your home. For example, take a look at the kind of light bulbs you use.

The standard incandescent bulbs contribute to higher electricity bills and emit more carbon dioxide. If you switch out your current incandescent bulbs and replace them with compact fluorescent bulbs, you’ll save the environment and will also save on your electric bill. If you must, replace your current incandescent bulbs slowly over time with compact fluorescent bulbs, since these can be expensive. For example, you can switch out one or two incandescent bulbs every month with compact fluorescent bulbs come if your budget does not support replacing all at once.

You can also seal any gaps around your windows or doors to keep any cool drafts from going into the house. This can cost you more money. Your house should be well insulated so that you can cut down on energy “escapes,” especially during the wintertime. The better insulated your house, the less your furnace will have to run, which will save you money and will save energy, too.

Next, have a look at your appliances. Are they older? If they are, they probably consume much more energy than they need to. Of course, you can replace older models with new ones as the need arises, but this may not always be practical. However, even if you cannot replace all of your appliances now, you can do other things that will help save you energy.

As one example, you might open the oven door several times to check and see if something is done. This wastes energy, since the harder an appliance has worked, the more energy it consumes. This means you waste much more energy, which in turn is hard on the environment. Every time you open the oven door, the temperature drops about 25 degrees. Then it has to consume more energy to get back up to the original temperature.

One of the things you should also be doing a regular basis is recycling. Buy as much as you can that says “recycled” on it, and recycle your own waste as much as you can, too. Don’t use non-recyclable items such as Styrofoam cups whenever possible. The less that must be tossed into landfills, the better.

These may seem like small changes, but they can have a huge impact on the environment. Simply put, if everyone does them, this has a huge impact in a positive way on the environment. Every little bit everyone can do will go a long way toward preserving our planet for future generations. Pay attention to the environment and get involved so that you, too, begin to positively impact the environment through green living practices that will only benefit the earth.
