Many people want to help protect our environment but don’t know where to start. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is encouraging Americans to “Change the World, Start with Energy Star.”
Most home energy comes from power plants burning fossil fuels, which in turn creates greenhouse gas emissions. By using less energy at home, you reduce greenhouse gases released into the air and protect our world against harmful climate change.
Using Energy Star-qualified products and taking simple energy-saving actions at home can also save you money on utility bills. Start by taking the Energy Star Pledge to learn more—change a light you use most often to an Energy Star-qualified one or take any of a half-dozen other first steps. If every American household took part in the pledge, we would save $18 billion in annual energy costs and prevent greenhouse gas equal to the emissions from 18 million cars.
